Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan has launched his new political party named Makkal Needhi Maiam (People’s Justice Centre), in Madurai.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti were also present at the launch event in Madurai.

Kamal Haasan also launched the party logo and flag. He went on to explain the six hands – three in red and three in white clasped around a white star set on a black background, seen on his party flag. He said the hands stood for the six south Indian states. “The star in the middle stand for you, the people,” Colours black and white have political significance in Tamil Nadu and are part of the flags of the two big Dravidian parties, AIADMK and DMK. he said.
Actor Kamal Haasan said his outfit was committed to politics free from “games of caste and religion” and would focus on good governance. In his launch address, Haasan touched upon key issues concerning Tamil Nadu including the Cauvery river water dispute, alleged corruption and vote for money.
Before the launch the actor visited the residence of former president APJ Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram and interacted with his family members.
